Learning Opportunities

Exploring how understanding emotions is something that can develop over time and with practice, rather than something that is simply present or absent.

Thinking about how body language can provide clues to someone's feelings.

Reflecting that the first step is identifying how someone feels.

The next step is to know what to do with that information.

Content Summary

Sheldon uses a machine to help him read the emotions of the people around him. He first tries the machine on Amy to read her body language. He then uses the machine to interpret how Leonard is feeling and shares what it tells him directly with the group. His reading of Leonard's emotions, delivered without social filtering, sparks a disagreement between Penny and Leonard.
